Document Export Utility & Document Archive Utility
“On short notice, we learned that one of the Firm’s major practice groups needed to export the majority of their legacy client-matter data in ProLaw to a new system as part of a larger litigation tracking effort. The legacy data consisted of approximately 46,000 matters with custom tab data, documents, dockets and notes. Upon learning of the requirement, we contacted jSQL LLC for assistance. They were able to draft a series of scripts to capture the custom tab data and they recommended purchasing a site license for their Document Export Utility. Using the utility, we were able to quickly export over 1,200,000 of documents in a well-organized hierarchy. The files were given useful names and the process was supported with log files that are designed to help recreate the parent and child relationships between dockets, notes and documents in the new application. The utility saved us an enormous amount of time (and money). It is very easy to use for anyone with any type of familiarity of ProLaw. We have since found many other uses for the Export Utility.
We are now in the process of utilizing the Document Archive Utility to delete the documents, dockets and notes associated with the migrated matters. When we initially purchased the Archive Utility it was with an eye on moving documents associated with closed matters to an alternate storage location so we could free up disk space. After having it for a few years we discovered it contains a ton of different tools all gears towards maintaining a well-organized and optimized document repository, including the ability to delete old, unwanted documents, dockets and notes. There are lots of useful tools in this application, reading the help file is very important to unlocking the utilities full potential.
